Some 50 participants took part in the National Day Artistic Painting and Calligraphy Competition 2012 organized by University Tunku Abdul Rahman (UTAR) recently. The event was held at the university’s campus in Kampar and saw more than 50 contestants from Perak.
The competition organized by UTAR was a joint collaboration with the 1Malaysia Artistic Assocaition and the Malaysian Institute of Art Alumni was held in conjunction with the Merdeka and Malaysia Day celebrations observed between August 31st and September 16th recently.
Prof Dr Ewe Hong Tat, the UTAR Internationalisation and Academic Development vice-president said that it was an ideal competition for contestants to demonstrate their patriotism for the country through art where each were given a theme to work on.
He also said that it was crucial for Malaysians, especially the youth to know the importance of Merdeka and Malaysia Days respectively and that everyone should play their role to contribute to the message. Basically, there were 2 categories for contestants to take part in which are the Western Arts and Chinese Calligraphy categories. The former was further divided into 4 age groups while the latter were divided into 2 age groups where the winners will stand to receive cash and certificates at the prize-giving ceremony at the end of the year.
