Cheah Yew Saik’s profile is a long list of achievements as an artist from Malaysia. His record speaks volumes which would be the envy of new and emerging Malaysian artists today. Born in 1939 from Sungai Petani in Malaysia’s northern state in Kedah, he is a graduate from the highly reputable Nanyang Academy of Arts in Singapore as well as from the Stroke-on-Trent College of Art. His early career spanned as an art teacher at the Han Chiang Art School in Penang while he is also the founder and principal of the Kuala Lumpur College of Art which have in the past produced many established and great Malaysian artists.
Today, he is a full time artist who devotes his time into producing his work through various mediums like paintings, ceramic and print, among others. Yew Saik is very much involved with the Malaysian art scene where apart from holding exhibitions he has also won awards that include the ‘MWS 1986 Award’ in 1986 by the Malaysia Water Colour Society. Apart from that, he was also the former president of the society as well as the former president of the Nanyang Academy of Fine Art Alumni Association of Malaysia from 1984 to 1985.
